“Things are usually better the second time around”, so this November the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts are once again paying tribute to the grand tradition of “taking tea” with its Get Steeped with Fairmont program. Expanded from a one-day celebration to a full month of festivi‘teas’, the 2012 program is sure to impress with traditional afternoon tea services, sommelier-led tastings, fancy hat competitions, tea-infused cocktails, and even a new, special tea blend.
Beginning Saturday, November 3, 2012 with official kick-off events at Fairmont locations around the globe, such as Fairmont Château Laurier’s exclusive Get Steeped tea service featuring a Jasmine Tea Infused Chocolate Fondue, and Fairmont Beijing’s gong fu traditional tea performances.
In the hotels and online, guests will also be able to purchase Eclipse, the first in a new series of Fairmont select tea blends which will be offered annually. Available for a limited time, this unique-to-Fairmont black tea is flavorful and full-bodied, offering up a citrus-y zest with hints of oak cask and caramel sweetness.
Here’s a taste of what Fairmont hotels around the globe have planned for Get Steeped 2012:
At Victoria’s venerable The Fairmont Empress, which serves about 500,000 cups of tea per year, the hotel is inviting guests to partake in its famed Royal Tea service and will also offer Chai-infused goodies and tea-themed spa treatments at the hotel’s Willow Stream Spa.
Over in Vancouver, Fairmont Pacific Rim will showcase an Asian-inspired tea service complete with sushi style tea sandwiches and a touch of tradition with classically prepared tea sandwiches, pastries, and scones. Craft cocktails will also be on the menu including a drink pairing Fairmont’s Maple Tea with bacon infused Bourbon.
Edmonton’s Fairmont Hotel Macdonald will mark Get Steeped with a special “Nutcracker Tea” complete with fancy hat contests, while a new Diamond Jubilee-inspired Afternoon Tea will be a must-do at The Fairmont Palliser in Calgary.
Sommelier-led tea sessions, traditional afternoon tea, and a lineup of 10 alcoholic and non-alcoholic tea-infused cocktails will await guests at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York and in nearby Ottawa, Fairmont Château Laurier will break with tradition by offering opened faced sandwiches alongside unconventional pastries and desserts.
In Montreal, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth will offer an afternoon tea fit for a queen with a Buckingham Palace tea blend served with a three-tier tray of gourmet finger sandwiches, fall honey from the hotel’s onsite bees, Devonshire cream with scones, fine pastries and more.
The city of Boston will always be associated with tea and Fairmont’s two hotels in the city are going “overboard” with their Get Steeped plans. At The Fairmont Copley Plaza, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012, the hotel will once again serve afternoon tea in its recently renovated Lobby Lounge which features signed lithographs by Matisse, Picasso and Chagall. Tea-infused cocktails will be made to perfection in the hotel’s new restaurant, OAK Long Bar + Kitchen, while over at Fairmont Battery Wharf a special “Jazz Tea” and complimentary “Tea Bar” will be a lively affair.
While it’s the most famous hotel in New York City (or perhaps even the world), The Plaza, A Fairmont Managed Hotel is going a little Hollywood with its tea plans. With the upcoming movie release of The Great Gatsby, which features the iconic hotel, The Plaza will offer guests a Roaring Twenties tea service that even the great Jay Gatsby wouldn’t want to miss.
The Fairmont Washington D.C., Georgetown will use Get Steeped to usher in a new afternoon tea program in the Loggia Lounge and garden Courtyard every Saturday and Sunday, including an exclusive 2-for-1 tea service on November 3.
In sun-drenched Arizona, patrons will have the opportunity to cool down with Raspberry Iced Tea-Quila and other tea-infused concoctions at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Wine Tea’sers are sure to whet visitors’ palates throughout the month.
Making tea month as sweet as possible, The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle will debut its new “Rooftop Honey” tea—incorporating the hotel’s summer honey harvest with both savory and sweet menu items.
In Hawaii, guests will have the opportunity to tour a tea plantation at The Fairmont Orchid, and at The Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui the hotel is offering November Tea Tuesdays with tea-themed events, tastings, activities and education. On select dates throughout the month, the resort will also provide free green tea ice cream poolside and offer special tea treatments at Spa Kea Lani.
Experience the age-old tradition of tea at one of Fairmont’s newest hotels: Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv. From kids’ tea parties and master classes to special “Tea-ny” cocktails, Get Steeped festivities will be the hottest things on the social calendar in Ukraine’s bustling capital this November.
In Hamburg, Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten will debut a new “Winter Rosé Bubble Dreams” Tea Time featuring scrumptious scones, finger sandwiches and other tasty treats. Other “tea”rrific activities taking place in the month include a Teddy Bear Tea and entertaining craft workshops.
Tea-infused cocktails and other treats can be had in Scotland and Monte Carlo with Fairmont St Andrews serving up cocktails like the Tea and Toast-tini made with Fairmont Breakfast Tea Blend, Seville Orange Marmalade, Bombay Sapphire Gin and fresh lemon juice, and Fairmont Monte Carlo getting creative with sweet and salty tea-infused iced lollypops.
Not to be outdone, Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Switzerland will offer special Sunday Brunches and traditional afternoon service throughout the month.
Middle East & Africa
Traditional favorites, tasty tea pairings, and exclusive menu offerings are on tap throughout the Middle East and Africa. During the month of November guests at the Fairmont Dubai will be able to enjoy a special Get Steeped cocktail featuring chamomile tea-infused syrup, while at Makkah Clock Royal Tower, A Fairmont Hotel, a refreshing beverage including Fairmont Berry Berry Tea, orange and apple slices, sparkling water, and a touch of fresh mint will serve as the perfect afternoon treat.
In Abu Dhabi, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr invites patrons to The Chocolate Gallery on November 3 for an extravagant Golden Afternoon Tea delight. The hotel will be hosting its 2nd Annual Mad Hatter Affair and a croquet tournament on The Chocolate Gallery lawn.
Heading to Cairo, Fairmont Heliopolis & Towers will offer an attractive afternoon tea menu from November 3 – 10, host tea tastings, serve up tea-infused cocktails and mocktails, and much more. Not far away, Fairmont Nile City’s Onyx Lounge will present an authentically local afternoon tea affair complete with tea sommelier and tastings.
A Nairobi institution, Fairmont The Norfolk has long served as a gathering place for tea lovers in this Kenyan capital. The hotel will kick of its tea festivities on November 3 with a number of tasty tea pairings that will be on the menu throughout the entire month.
Down in South Africa, Fairmont Zimbali Resort will debut a new daily afternoon High Tea in the resort’s lobby lounge, Dalchini. The menu will feature traditional favorites such as jam and scones with clotted cream along with authentic Indian and South African dishes such as melktert, koeksisters, coconut ice and samoosas.
With the first recorded drinking of tea taking place in China, it’s only fitting that Fairmont’s hotels in Asia will be in step to celebrate the most widely consumed beverage in the world. At the iconic Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, the hotel is brewing up a month full of tea celebrations including themed overnight packages, etiquette events, and various restaurant and bar tea offerings.
Nearby, Fairmont Yangcheng Lake will Get Steeped with Bi Lou Chun green tea from its very own on-site plantation. Chilled green tea cocktails infused with the resort’s organic honey will be served in the lobby bar Luwei, while Pastry Chef Hogan will tempt guests in Essence with his version of homemade green tea ice cream.
At the Fairmont Beijing, visitors will have the opportunity to partake in Fairmont’s global tea party with Gong Fu traditional tea performances. A traditional Gong Fu tea experience will be presented to guests in the Lobby Lounge with a long mouth kettle performer delighting guests with an unforgettable performance of grace and accuracy, pouring hot tea into tiny cups from a 2-meter spout. House made Chinese tea cocktails, brewed with local Jasmine and Chamomile leafs, and live Chinese music performances will also be top draws for visitors and guests alike.
Outside of China, Fairmont Singapore will host interactive ceremonial tea tasting sessions with a kung fu Tea Master in the hotel’s lobby, while also serving up delicious and fragrant teacakes at the Executive Club Lounge. Alligator Pear, the hotel’s poolside al-fresco dining outlet will also feature a range of Asian-flavored ice teas.
