SARA SAYS…
Ciao fits Yorkville like the glass slipper fit Cinderella. In what seems like no time at all this sociable Italian eatery and wine bar has become a favourite place for an easy-going lunch or dinner, seven days a week.
Nick Di Donato of Liberty Entertainment Group has created the best of both worlds: the glitz of Yorkville in leather and suede booths, leather chairs and heavy butcher block tables, plus comfort food, rooted in Naples: linguine with clams, orecchiette with rapini and spicy sausage, ravioli, lasagna, pasta long and short. State of the art pizza ovens that cost as much as a nice car turn out your pizza in minutes, and there is a page of selections to choose from. The food boasts big flavours and hearty spicing, soulful but still healthy. I favour the whole grilled fish, ultra-fresh branzino, glissed with herbs and olive oil, and the unique selection of salads.
Even with all the square feet that must be trod, the staff never shows anything but smiling, untiring efficiency. There is the open patio, the closed patio, the rocking lounge downstairs—with its Italian style Salumeria—the main floor and bar, and the mezzanine dining room. A space to suit every mood.
