SARA SAYS…
Crush bills itself as a wine bar. Yes, the wine list is vast, but the kitchen could well take top billing. It might just as easily be a restaurant with a great wine bar. Crush has always been a place to have fun while experimenting with wine. And to assist in this pleasure, extremely knowledgeable staff can recommend one glass, several glasses or bottles, depending on your plans.
In our view of the large open kitchen at the back of this truly comfortable restaurant, white-coated cooks gracefully go about their business. The menu has the added benefit of a recommended wine by the glass for each dish: With Norfolk bison tartare, a glass of Miguel Torres Tempranillo. House-smoked trout with Parmesan crisps marries with local Queenston Road Vineyard Pinot Noir St. David’s Bench. From the heart of the menu, Marcona crusted halibut with sweet onion ragout is perfect with New Zealand’s Mount Nelson Sauvignon Blanc, and the Berkshire pork chop gets a kick with Yosemite View Merlot from California.
Exposed brick walls hung with French wine posters and tall chairs of dark wood give a sense of romance to the room. Often, guests at the front bar choose to spend the evening in the restaurant.
