SARA SAYS…
There is a reason for everything. It took a well-credentialed New Yorker, G.M. Steven Salm, to note that our maple leaves have 11 points. And, after all, it is in this complex that our own Maple Leafs play. Smart. This handsome room is designed to create privacy with a variety of seating: Circular leather booths, plush banquettes, tables for four and a reclaimed wood community table in the bar. An I-Pad on your table with the details of a 600-bottle wine cellar and an array of cocktails is fun and informative.
The menu offers food to fortify the hearty eaters as well as to charm those who eat an appetizer and head to the gym. Begin with a simply retro Parker House roll hot from the oven in its own pan. You’ll be sending that pan back empty. A baseball size Kobe meatball robed in zesty tomato sauce and tuna tartare seasoned by a knowing hand are favourites. The signature half roast chicken with the chef’s mom’s country stuffing will make you smile with delight; AAA Alberta dry-aged beef is splendid, and how about that slab of sauce-glistened baby back ribs?
Director of Culinary, Chef Robert Bartley’s menu is citified, uncomplicated North American cuisine that takes a detour through Italy, and keeps its distinct Canadian accent.
