The competitors for the competition from each Canadian chapter were as follows:
Atlantic: Robert Noel
Ontario: Will Predhomme, Bruce Wallner
Quebec: Élyse Lambert, Véronique Rivest, Bertrand Eichel
The preliminary written, service and tasting examinations were follwed by the three finalists, Will Predhomme (Ontario), Élyse Lambert (Quebec), and Véronique Rivest (Quebec) each facing a grueling, hour-long public performance which included oral blind tasting, wine list correction and formal service tasks, in their second language, in order to determine Canada’s Best Sommelier.
The winner of the competition, presented with the “Inniskillin Award for Best Sommelier of Canada”, and appropriately toasted with Inniskillin Icewine, is… Véronique Rivest.
Véronique Rivest (pictured above between Judge Del Rollo, National Director of Hospitality at Constellation Brands Canada, and Jessica Harnois, CAPS National Board President) will now represent Canada in the Best Sommelier Competition of the Americas in Brazil later this year, as well as the World’s Best Sommelier Competition in 2013 in Japan.
Congratulations! Félicitations! Boa sorte in Brazil! and Ganbatte in Japan!
