Ice Ice Baby

How do we warm up in the winter? 10% of all Canadians visit the allure of the Florida coast. For those of us that remain, there is plenty of excitement being cooked-up to keep us above the chill. Here are DINE’s recommendations:

There is one more weekend left in the Niagara Icewine Festival. Pick up a Discovery Tour Pass, and sample distinct icewine pairings, cocktails and cooking from across Niagara Wine Country on January 28 – 29. (Check out DINE’s latest Sound Bite from the recent Icewine Cocktail Competition: http://www.dinemagazine.ca/2012/01/sound-bite-icewine-festival/)

February brings the Days of Wine and Chocolate. Each weekend we can explore and indulge in wine and chocolate pairings while touring the snowy wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Winterlicious, the annual gastronomic celebration of Toronto’s top restaurants, begins on January 27 and runs through to February 9. Check out these DINE restaurant listings: http://www.dinemagazine.ca/2012/01/winterlicious/, and take advantage of this time to taste somewhere new…

Allen’s Annual Steak Festival runs from February 7 to February 25. Included are steaks from Angus, Limousin, Piemontese, Highland, Hereford, Wagyu and, for the first time, John Maxwell’s own Dexter Cattle. All of the beef at Allen’s is verified from farm to fork, with breed, farm, feed and age identified. We love the steaks at Allen’s, and there is no way we will miss tasting at least a few of this year’s selection of the highest quality beef in the world. No way.

“From tree…to treat”. Chocolate: The Exhibition, runs from January 28 to April 15 at the Royal Botanical Gardens. Visitors can indulge in a captivating journey, from chocolate’s ancient beginnings to today’s multi-billion dollar industry, exploring cultural links with the natural world and, of course, devouring chocolate!
